About the Deb Bailey Foundation

deb baileyThe Deb Bailey Foundation was set up in memory of Deb Bailey who died in July 2001 suffering from Motor Neurone Disease. Deb was 48 when she died after a short illness of only 7 months.

Deb was a passionate, thoughtful and kind woman who cared deeply for people and made them all feel special in their own way. It has often been said that she was a gatherer of people.

The Foundation is raising money for medical research purposes to find a cure for Motor Neurone Disease, a debilitating presently incurable disease that affects the nervous system and can affect anyone at any time.

Our first project is to raise money to assist special research currently being conducted by Professor Perry Bartlett, Foundation Professor of Molecular Neuroscience at the University of Queensland. Professor Bartlett is working to discover drugs which can stimulate stem cells, resident in the brain, to make new nerves to replace those lost in neurological diseases such as Motor Neurone Disease.

Though Deb was passionate about finding a cure for this disease, she knew all too well that no matter how hard she tried, she would receive no personal benefit from her efforts. This is why we have rallied to form this Foundation to remember the woman she was and to continue her spirit of kindness. All those who knew Deb are more than willing to offer support.
