Associate Prof Gilles Guillemin has been a Senior Research Officer at the Centre for Immunology and Applied Medical Research in St Vincent's Hospital (Australia) for the last 14 years. He is the Head of the Neuroinflammation research group in the Pharmacology Department at the University of New South Wales. He is also an Honorary Associate of the University of Sydney and the Visiting Senior Research Fellow at The Australasian Research Institute, Sydney Adventist Hospital, Wahroonga.
Associate Prof Guillemin has published more than 94 papers and edited a book, "Neuroanatomie fonctionnelle: La cellule microgliale". He has also contributed to 12 other books and presented at more than 80 conferences.
Gilles Guillemin is heavily involved in tryptophan research, as his group is one of the world's leading research groups working on neuroactive metabolites derived from tryptophan. He is also on the executive committees of the International Society for Tryptophan Research and the Neurotoxicity Society. His current research interest is studying the involvement of tryptophan catabolism (via the kynurenine pathway) in human neurodegenerative diseases such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, multiple sclerosis, Alzheimer's disease and brain tumours.
